Elizabeth Tomalis never imagined that her passion for sustainability would find a home in a marketing role at a technology company. But at Trane Technologies—where every job is a sustainability job and every role an opportunity to make an impact—Elizabeth has discovered that her work is making a difference.

A rewarding early career experience

Elizabeth's journey with Trane Technologies began as an intern for the Residential HVAC business during the summer before her senior year at North Carolina State University. Her enthusiasm and dedication quickly caught the attention of her mentors, and upon graduation, she was invited to join the Accelerated Development Program (ADP). This rotational early career program offers recent graduates' broad exposure to the company's operations and senior leaders across various functions and locations.

"The ADP program has been an incredible opportunity to explore different pathways in marketing," Elizabeth shares. "You get to learn a variety of skills early on in your career and try new things to find what you’re passionate about."

Elizabeth's passion for sustainability found a perfect match in her role on Trane Technologies’ Enterprise Marketing team. She quickly became a key contributor in managing the company's social media programs, creating compelling content and overseeing the social media editorial calendar. Under her guidance, the impact and reach of the company’s social channels have grown significantly, earning the team a President's Award, a prestigious internal award for program excellence and innovation.

"I was completely shocked when we won the President's Award for our social media growth," Elizabeth recalls. "It was great to feel that the work I'm doing is really making an impact on our business."

Sometimes when you're thinking about ‘green jobs,’ you only think about engineering or environmental roles but we all have an impact on sustainability, whether it's in marketing, finance or human resources, because we’re all working towards the same shared goals.

Purpose-driven every day

Elizabeth's contributions to helping educate and inspire people through Trane Technologies’ sustainability leadership extends beyond social media. One of the highlights of her early career was representing Trane Technologies at Climate Week NYC, one of the largest annual climate summits. As a Gen Z representative, she spoke on a panel about the company's sustainability initiatives and her role in amplifying these efforts through marketing.

"I was thrilled to represent Trane Technologies and highlight all the amazing things we do," Elizabeth says. "The fact that they trusted me this early in my career to speak on an external panel about sustainability – that felt really special."

She has also been actively involved in the production of the Healthy Spaces podcast, bringing together experts to explore and share how climate technology and innovation are transforming how we live more sustainably.

Extending her impact

Elizabeth's personal commitment to sustainability is evident in her pursuit of volunteer opportunities, including involvement with the company's growing Sustainability Ambassador Network. This internal network helps drive understanding of key sustainability topics and trends related to Trane Technologies' 2030 Sustainability Commitments.

"Sometimes when you're thinking about ‘green jobs,’ you only think about engineering or environmental roles," Elizabeth explains. "But we can all have an impact on sustainability, whether it's in marketing, finance or human resources, because we’re all working towards the same shared goals." Through her work, Elizabeth is helping to create a more sustainable future, one educational campaign at a time.

As Elizabeth prepares to move into a new rotation within Trane Technologies, she reflects on her journey and the culture that has supported her growth.

"It’s such an amazing experience that we get to have here as part of the ADP program," she says. "I really love the culture of our company. People care about others, they want to see you do well. They want to help you thrive and they’re really dedicated to your success in the company."
